In this May 2, 1945 file photo, Soviet soldiers hoist the red flag over the Reichstag in Berlin. It’s the lead-up to one of the iconic images of World War II. However, the photograph isn’t capturing the historical moment: Yevgeni Khaldei staged the scene on May 2, 1945 — three days after the Soviets had captured the key seat of Nazi power.
Reichstag was actually not used as “the key seat of Nazi power” after the fire early on.
