Gertrude Stein and her portrait
Man Ray, Gertrude Stein and Picasso’s Portrait (1922)
It took 90 sittings for Picasso to complete his Portrait of Gertrude Stein, and he gave her a primitive mask for a face. Stein liked Picasso’s Portrait but said it didn’t look like her. He told her she would grow to resemble it. She was a true friend and equal with Picasso.
